Uses

Dofetilide is used to treat some serious (potentially fatal) irregular heartbeats (such as atrial fibrillation / pulse). It is used to restore normal heart rhythm and to maintain a regular, stable heartbeat. Dofetilide is known as an anti-arrhythmia drug. It works by blocking the activity of some electrical signals in the heart, which can cause irregular heartbeats. Treating irregular heartbeat can reduce the risk of blood clotting, and this effect can reduce the risk of your heart attack or stroke.

How To Use Dofetilide

Read the medication guide provided by your pharmacist before you start taking Dofetilide and every time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Take Dofetilide from mouth, usually with food or twice, or guided by your doctor. To reduce your risk of serious side effects, it is very important to take this medication perfectly.

Dosage is based on your medical condition, kidney function and treatment response.

Use Dofetilide regularly to get the most benefit. To help you remember, take it every day at the same time.

Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.

Side Effects

Headache, dizziness, or nausea. If any of these effects persists or worsens, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed Dofetilide because he or she has decided that your benefit is higher than the risk of side effects. Many people using this drug do not have serious side effects.

If there are any of these rare but serious side effects, then seek immediate medical attention: chest pain, unconsciousness, fast / more irregular heartbeats, serious dizziness.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, if you see symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: granular, itching / swelling (especially the face / tongue / throat), severe dizziness, difficulty breathing.

Precautions

Before taking Dofetilide, tell your doctor or pharmacist whether you are allergic to it; Or if you have any other allergens. This product may contain passive elements, which may cause allergic or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using Dofetilide, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, in particular: kidney problems, liver disease

Dofetilide can make you feel dizzy. Alcohol or marijuana can make you feel more dizzy. Unless you can safely do this, do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that requires caution. Limit alcoholic beverages If you are using marijuana, talk to your doctor.

Dofetilide can cause a condition that affects the rhythm of the heart (QT prolonged). Prolonged Qt can rarely cause serious (rarely fatal) fast / irregular heartbeat and other symptoms (such as severe dizziness, unconsciousness) that require immediate medical attention.

If you have some medical conditions or QT prolonged other medications are taking Qt can increase the risk of prolonging. Before using Dofetilide, tell your doctor or the pharmacist of all the medicines you take, and if you have any of the following conditions: Some heart problems (heart failure, slow heart beat, QT in EKG) Prolonged), family history of some heart problems (Qt) longevity in EKG, sudden cardiac death).

Lower levels of potassium or magnesium in the blood can also increase the risk of QT being long. Older adults may be more susceptible to the side effects of this drug, especially Qt Latency (see above).

During pregnancy, Dofetilide should be used only when explicitly necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

It is unknown if this medicine passes in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Interactions

Drug interactions can change how your medicines work or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. Some products that can interact with this drug include: dolutegravir, fingolimod.

In addition to Dofetilide, many medicines can affect cardiac rhythm (Qt protein), including amiodarone,  pimozide,  procainamide,  quinidine,  saquinavir,  sotalol,  macrolide antibiotics (such as clarithromycin, erythromycin), and certain quinolone antibiotics (such as sparfloxacin). Other medicines can affect the removal of Dofetilide from your body, which can affect how Dofetilide work. Examples include  hydrochlorothiazide, indapamide, itraconazole, ketoconazole, lamotrigine, megestrol, prochlorperazine, trimethoprim, verapamil etc.

Avoid taking cimetidine during treatment with Dofetilide. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about other medicines for heartburn / anxiety stomach.

Over Dose

If someone is treated and has serious symptoms such as difficulty in getting out or breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call the Poison Control Center immediately, American residents can call their local toxin control center at 1-800-222-1222. Canadians can call a provincial poison control center. The symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, unconsciousness.

Notes

Do not share this medication with others.

In order to monitor your progress or examine side effects, laboratory and / or clinical trials (such as EKG, Kidney Function) should be done periodically before starting Dofetilide during your treatment. Consult your doctor for more details.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, then leave the missed dose and start your normal dose program again. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 59-86 ° F (15-30 ° C) away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
