GENERIC NAME(S): Nortriptyline

Uses

Nortriptyline, sold under the brand name Aventyl, Pamelor among others. This drug is used to treat mental / mood problems like depression. It can help to improve mood and emotions, remove anxiety and stress and can increase your energy level. This drug is related to a class of drugs called tricyclic antidepressants. It works by affecting the balance of some natural chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain.

How to use Aventyl Capsule

Read the medication guide provided by your pharmacist before you start taking Aventyl and you get a refill every time. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medicine from mouth, usually 1 to 4 times per day or your doctor’s direction. If you are using liquid form, then carefully measure the dose using special measurement equipment / spoon. Do not use domestic spoon because you can not get the right dose.

Dosage is based on your medical condition and treatment response. To reduce your risk of side effects (such as dry mouth, dizziness), your doctor may direct you to start this medication at low dose and gradually increase your dose. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.

Take Aventyl regularly so that it can get the most benefit. To help you remember, take it at the same time every day. Do not increase your dose or use this drug more often than prescribed. There will be no improvement in your situation, and the risk of your side effects will increase.

It is important to continue taking this medicine even if you feel OK. Do not stop taking this medicine without consultation with your doctor. When this medicine suddenly stops, some conditions may get worse. In addition, you may experience symptoms such as mood swings, headache, fatigue and changes in sleep. Side Effects

There may be problems in drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, weight gain or urination. If any of these effects persists or worsens immediately, inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

To reduce the risk of dizziness and lighthouse, slowly rise while sitting or lying down from the position of lying.

To relieve dry mouth, suck on (sugarless) hard candy or ice chips, chew (sugarless) gum, drink water, or use a saliva substitute.

To prevent constipation, maintain adequate diet in the fiber, drink plenty of water and exercise. If you get constipation while using this medicine, then consult your pharmacist to help you choose a laxative.

Aventyl can increase serotonin and rarely cause a very serious condition, which is called serotonin syndrome / toxicity. The risk increases if you are taking other medicines that increase the serotonin, so tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines that you take (see the drug interaction section). Get medical help immediately when some of the following symptoms develop: Fast heartbeats, hallucinations, loss of coordination, severe dizziness, severe nausea / vomiting / diarrhea, muscle shaking, unexplained fever, abnormal movement or restlessness

If you have a very serious side effect, get immediate medical assistance, including: severe dizziness, fast / irregular heartbeat, unconsciousness, seizures, eye pain / swelling / redness, widened pupils, vision changes (such as seeing rainbows around lights at night).

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, if you see symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, then seek immediate medical attention, including: granules, itching / swelling (especially the face / tongue / throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulties.

Before taking Aventyl, tell your doctor or pharmacist whether you are allergic to it; Or other tricyclic antidepressants (such as amitriptyline); Or if you have any other allergens. This product can have passive elements, which can cause allergic or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using this drug, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially: problems in breathing, liver problems, recent heart attacks, urinary problems (such as increased prostate) Individual or family history of hyperthyroidism, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, personal or family history (angular type), mental / mood conditions, personal or family history (e.g Bipolar disorder, psychosis), family history of suicide, visits, situations that can increase your risk of stroke (like other brain diseases, alcohol canal).

Aventyl may cause a condition that affects the heart rhythm (QT prolongation). QT prolongation can rarely cause serious (rarely fatal) fast/irregular heartbeat and other symptoms (such as severe dizziness, fainting) that need medical attention right away.

The risk of QT prolongation may be increased if you have certain medical conditions or are taking other drugs that may cause QT prolongation. Before using Aventyl, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all the drugs you take and if you have any of the following conditions: certain heart problems (heart failure, slow heartbeat, QT prolongation in the EKG), family history of certain heart problems (QT prolongation in the EKG, sudden cardiac death).

Low levels of potassium or magnesium in the blood may also increase your risk of QT prolongation. This risk may increase if you use certain drugs (such as diuretics/”water pills”) or if you have conditions such as severe sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting. Talk to your doctor about using Aventyl safely.

This medication can make you feel dizzy or depressed or blurred your vision. Alcohol or marijuana can make you more dizzy or deaf. Unless you can safely do it, do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that requires caution or clear vision. Limit alcoholic beverages. If you are using marijuana, talk to your doctor.

Before surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products that you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs and herbal products).

Aventyl can make you more sensitive to the sun. Keep your time limited in the sun. Avoid Tanning Booths and Sunlamps. Use sunscreen on the outside and wear protective clothing. Tell your doctor immediately if you have sunburned or have blisters / redness on the skin.

This drug can have alcohol in liquid form. If you are advised to take precautions in diabetes, alcohol dependence, liver disease, or any other condition, then you need to limit / limit the alcohol in your diet. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about using this product safely.

If you have diabetes, then this medicine can make it difficult to control your blood glucose level. Regularly monitor your blood glucose levels and tell your doctor about the consequences. Your doctor may need to adjust your diabetes medication, exercise program or diet.

Older adults can be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, particularly dry mouth, dizziness, difficulty in urination, and difficulty in urination, and QT prolongation (see above).

Interactions

Drug interactions can change how your medicines work or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. Some of the products that interact with this drug include: arbutamine, “blood thinners” (such as warfarin), disulfiram, thyroid supplements, anticholinergic drugs (such as benztropine, belladonna alkaloids), certain drugs for high blood pressure (drugs that work in the brain such as clonidine, guanabenz).

Taking the MAO inhibitor with this drug can be a cause of serious (potentially fatal) drug interactions. During treatment with this drug, avoid taking the MAO inhibitor (isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, safinamide, selegiline, tranylcypromine). Most MAO inhibitors should not be taken for two weeks before and after treatment with this drug. Ask your doctor when to start or stop this medication.

If you are taking other medicines that increase serotonin then the risk of serotonin syndrome / toxicity increases. Examples include MDMA / “ecstasy,” St. John’s wort, certain antidepressants (including SSRIs such as fluoxetine/paroxetine, SNRIs such as duloxetine/venlafaxine), among others. The risk of serotonin syndrome / toxicity can be higher when you start or increase the dose of these medicines.

Other medicines can affect the removal of Aventyl from your body, affecting how Aventyl works. These drugs include cimetidine, terbinafine, drugs to treat irregular heart rate (such as quinidine/propafenone/flecainide). This is not a complete list.

Apart from the addition of Aventyl, many medicines can affect heart rhythm (QT prolongation in the EKG), including amiodarone, cisapride, dofetilide, pimozide, procainamide, quinidine, sotalol, macrolide antibiotics (such as erythromycin), among others. Therefore, before using the Aventyl, report all the medicines that you are currently using for your doctor or pharmacist.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist whether you are taking other products due to drowsiness including alcohol, marijuana, antihistamines (such as cetirizinediphenhydramine), sleep or anxiety medicines (such as alprazolam, diazepam, zolpidem), muscles relax, and Alcohol pain relievers (e.g codeine)

Check the label on all your drugs (like allergy or cough-and-cold products) because they may include decongestants or elements that cause drowsiness. Ask your pharmacist about using those products safely.

Aventyl is similar to amitriptyline. Do not use medicines containing amitriptyline while using Aventyl.

Over Dose

If someone is treated and has serious symptoms like having trouble going out or breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call the Poison Control Center immediately. US residents can call their local venom control center at 1-800-222-1222. Canadians can call a provincial poison control center. Symptoms of overdose may include: excessive drowsiness, hallucinations, fast / irregular heartbeat, unconsciousness, slow / shallow breath, seizures.

Do not share this medication with others.

Laboratory and / or medical tests (such as EKG, liver test, Aventyl blood level) can be performed from time to time to monitor your progress or examine side-effects. Keep all medical appointments. Consult your doctor for more details.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, then as soon as you remember, take it. If it is near the next dose time, then leave the thesis supplement and start your normal dose program again. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage

Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
