GENERIC NAME(S): Citalopram

Uses

Citalopram, sold under the brand name Cipramil among others. Cipramil is used to treat depression. It can improve your energy level and welfare feelings. Cipramil is known as the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). This medicine works by helping to restore the balance of a certain natural substance (serotonin) in the brain.

How To Use Cipramil

Read the medication guide and, if available, the patient information sheet is provided by your pharmacist, before you start taking the Cipramil or Citalopram and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medication with your doctor-guided food or with it, usually once in the morning or evening. Dosage is based on your medical condition, treatment response, age, laboratory tests, and other medicines you take. Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you use (including Prescription Drugs, nonprescription Drugs and Herbal Products). The maximum dose of Cipramil is 40 mg per day.

If you are using the liquid form of this drug, then carefully measure the dose using special measurement equipment / spoon. Do not use domestic spoon because you can not get the right dose.

To reduce your risk of side effects, your doctor may direct you to start taking this medication on low dose and gradually increase your dose. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. Nausea, dry mouth, loss of appetite, fatigue, drowsiness, sweating, blurred vision and yawning may occur. If any of these effects persists or worsens, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this drug because he or she has decided that the benefit is higher than the risk of side effects. Many people using this drug do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor immediately if you have a serious side effect, including: shaking (shuddering), decreased interest in sex, changes in sexual ability, easy injury / bleeding.

Precautions

Before taking Cipramil or Citalopram, tell your doctor or pharmacist whether you are allergic to it; Or for escitalopram; Or if you have any other allergens. This product can have passive elements, which can cause allergic or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using this drug, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, in particular: personal or family history of bipolar / manic-depressive disorder, personal or family history of suicide attempts, liver disease, seizures, blood Low sodium, intestinal ulcers / bleeding (peptic ulcer disease) or bleeding problem, personal or family history of glaucoma (angle-closure type).

Cipramil can cause a condition that affects the rhythm of the heart (QT prolongation). QT prolongation can rarely cause serious (rarely fatal) fast / irregular heartbeat and other symptoms (such as severe dizziness, unconsciousness) that require immediate medical attention.

The risk of QT prolongation may be increased if you have certain medical conditions or are taking other drugs that may cause QT prolongation. Before using Cipramil, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all the drugs you take and if you have any of the following conditions: certain heart problems (heart failure, slow heartbeat, recent heart attack, QT prolongation in the EKG), family history of certain heart problems (QT prolongation in the EKG, sudden cardiac death).

Low levels of potassium or magnesium in the blood may also increase your risk of QT prolongation. This risk may increase if you use certain drugs (such as diuretics/”water pills”) or if you have conditions such as severe sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting. Talk to your doctor about using Cipramil safely.

This medication can make you sore or blur your vision. Alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) can make you more stupid. Unless you can safely do it, do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that requires caution or clear vision. Avoid alcoholic beverages. Talk to your doctor if you are using marijuana (cannabis).

Before surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products that you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs and herbal products).

Older adults may be more susceptible to the side effects of this drug, especially bleeding, loss of coordination, and QT prolongation (see above). They may be more likely to develop a type of salt imbalance (especially hyponatremia), especially if they are also taking “water pills” (diuretics). The risk of falling from the loss of coordination can increase.

Children may be more susceptible to the side effects of this drug, especially less appetite and weight loss. Monitor weight and height in children taking this medicine.

This medicine passes in breast milk and can have an undesirable effect on the nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Over Dose

Missed Dose
