White egg is considered beneficial to health due to its high protein content, but unfortunately the egg yolk is high in cholesterol content and can prove harmful to your health.

How bad is egg yolk in smoking?

Researchers from Western University in Canada found a connection between the consumption of egg yolk and the development of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a medical condition that can lead to heart attack and stroke, accumulation of plaque with arterial walls.

Potential damage from high cholesterol intake, especially of healthy egg yolks such as egg yolk, is not counted. Patients going to the Canadian Vascular Prevention Clinic were screened for their plaque area (TPA) and if they have loads of atherosclerosis or by any means harming their arteries. To gain an insight on the magnitude of impact, the effect of smoking was also considered.

Researchers at the University Hospital questioned patients about their lifestyle, drugs, history of smoking and egg consumption per week. The assessment of 1262 patients suggested that the carotid plaque area increased at a steady rate after 40 years, but due to smoking and regular intake of egg yolk, rapid growth. The amount of egg yolk effect was 2/3 of smoking.

The impact of smoking on the blood vessels and the development of plaque is direct, whereas eggs have indirect effects, thereby affecting whole blood cholesterol. High-level blood cholesterol gradually leads to the accumulation of the artery plaque. In addition to eating eggs, there are other factors to affect your cholesterol, including your diet, weight, physical activity and genetics.

Research has indicated the potential risks of egg yolk consumption for people at risk for heart disease. However, more tests and potential studies are required to confirm this.
