Uses

Fenofibrate is used with a proper diet to help reduce “poor” cholesterol and fat (such as LDL, triglycerides) and increase blood “good” cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. It works by enhancing the natural substance (enzyme) that breaks fat in the blood. Fenofibrate is related to a group of drugs called “fibrates”. Reducing triglycerides in people with very high triglyceride blood levels can reduce the risk of pancreatitis. However, Fenofibrate can not reduce the risk of your heart attack or stroke. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of Fenofibrate.

In addition to eating a proper diet (such as low cholesterol / low fat diet), changes in other lifestyle that can help this drug work better include exercising, weight loss and more smoking. Consult your doctor for more details.

How to use Fenofibrate

Take Fenofibrate guided by your doctor, usually daily once daily. Fenofibrate come in various types of capsules and pills which provide various amounts of medication. Do not switch between different forms or brands of this medicine unless directed by your doctor. Some forms of this medicine should be taken with food but others can be taken with or without food. Ask your pharmacist about your brand of Fenofibrate. It is important to take this medicine in the right way so that the biggest benefit of the drug is.

Dosage is based on your medical condition and treatment response.

If you are taking some other medicines to reduce your cholesterol (bile acid-binding resins such as cholestyramine or colestipol), then at least 1 hour before taking these medicines or at least 4 to 6 hours after Fenofibrate Take it. These medicines can bind to Fenofibrate, which prevents your body from absorbing the drug completely.

Take this medication regularly to get the most benefit of it. To help you remember, take it at the same time every day. Do not increase your dose or use this drug more often than prescribed. Your cholesterol / triglycerides levels will not decrease rapidly, and the risk of your side effects will increase. It is important to continue taking this medicine even if you feel OK. Most people with high cholesterol / triglycerides do not feel sick.

Side Effects

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this drug because he or she has decided that the benefit is higher than the risk of side effects. Many people using this drug do not have serious side effects.

Fenofibrate can rarely cause gallstones and liver problems. If you do not have any of the following, but severe nausea / vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach / stomach ache, blinking of eyes, black skin

Tell your doctor immediately if you have a serious side effect, including: easy bleeding / injury, abnormal fatigue.

If you have a very serious side effect, seek medical help, including: chest pain, sudden pain / redness / swelling in the legs, signs of infection (such as sore throat which does not go away, fever, Swollen lymph nodes, chills, cough).

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, if you see symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, get medical help immediately, including: granular, itching / swelling (especially the face / tongue / throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

Precautions

Before taking Fenofibrate, tell your doctor or pharmacist whether you are allergic to it; Or other “fibrates” (such as fenofibric acid); Or if you have any other allergens. This product can have passive elements (such as soy), which can cause allergic or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using Fenofibrate, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially: kidney disease, gall bladder disease, liver disease (e.g biliary  cirrhosis, hepatitis), alcohol use.

Before surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products that you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs and herbal products).

This drug is not recommended for use during pregnancy. It can harm an unborn child. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

It is unknown if this medicine passes in breast milk. Due to the potential risk to the baby, it is advisable not to breastfeed for 5 days after using this drug and after stopping the medication. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Over Dose

If someone is treated and has serious symptoms like having trouble going out or breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call the Poison Control Center immediately. US residents can call their local venom control center at 1-800-222-1222. Canadians can call a provincial poison control center.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, then as soon as you remember, take it. If it is near the next dose time, then leave the thesis dose. Take your next dose at regular times. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage

Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Different brands of this drug need different storage. See the product package for instructions on how to store your brand, or ask your pharmacist. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.

Until instructed to do so, do not flush the medicines in the toilet and do not drain them. When this period expires or does not need it, then properly release this product. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company.
