GENERIC NAME(S): Gemfibrozil

Uses

Gemfibrozil or Lopid is used to help with low-fat (triglycerides) as well as proper diet and enhances “good” cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. It can also help to reduce “bad” cholesterol (LDL). Lopid is related to a group of drugs called “fibrates”. It works by reducing the amount of fat produced by liver. Reducing triglycerides in people with very high triglyceride blood levels can also reduce the risk of pancreatitis (pancreatitis). However, the risk of heart attack or stroke from Lopid may not be reduced. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of Lopid.

Apart from eating a proper diet (such as low cholesterol / low fat diet), other lifestyle changes that can help this drug work better, exercise in it, drink less alcohol, lose weight if overweight And prevention of smoking is involved.

How to use Lopid

Take Lopid through your doctor’s mouth, usually twice a day (30 minutes before morning and evening meal).

Dosage is based on your medical condition and treatment response.

If you consume some other medicines to reduce your cholesterol (bile acid-binding resins such as cholestyramine or colestipol), then at least 4-6 hours before taking these medicines or at least 4-6 hours Take Lopid. These products can react with Lopid inhibiting their full absorption.

Side effects

A very serious allergic reaction to Lopid is rare. However, if you see symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, then seek immediate medical attention, including: granules, itching / swelling (especially the face / tongue / throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulties.

Precautions

Before taking Gemfibrozil or Lopid, tell your doctor or pharmacist whether you are allergic to it; Or other “fibrates” (such as fenofibrate); Or if you have any other allergens. Over Dose

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, then as soon as you remember, take it. If it is near the next dose time, then leave the thesis dose. Take your next dose at regular times. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage
