Morphine

Morphine is the main alkaloid in opium and prototype opium is analgesic and narcotic. Morphine has a widespread effect on the central nervous system and smooth muscles.

Morphine is an opium alkaline plant that is separated from Papaver somniferum and is artificially produced. Morphine binds and activates specific opium receptors (Delta, Mu and Kappa), each of which is involved in controlling various functions of the brain.

Uses

Morphine is used to provide relief from moderate to severe pain. Morphine belongs to a class of opiate (alcoholic) painkillers. It works to change the brain how your body feels and responds to the pain.

How To Use Morphine Sulfate

Before taking morphine, read the medication guide given by your pharmacist and every time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Take Morphine guided by your doctor. You can take this medicine with or without food. If you have nausea, it can be helpful to take this medicine with food. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about other ways to reduce nausea (such as shaking the head as much as possible by lengthening from 1 to 2 hours).

If you are using the liquid form of Morphine, then carefully measure the dose using special measurement equipment / spoon. Do not use domestic spoon because you can not get the right dose. Ask your pharmacist or doctor if you are not sure how to check or measure the dose.

Dosage is based on your medical condition and treatment response. Do not increase your dose, take medication more often, or take longer than scheduled time. When instructed, stop the medication properly.

Pain medicines work best if they are used for the first signs of pain. If you wait until the pain gets worse, the medication can not work.

If you are suffering from persistent pain (such as cancer), then your doctor may instruct you to take longer-lasting opioid medications. In that case, this drug can be used for sudden (success) pain. Other painkillers (such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen) may also be prescribed with this medicine. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about using morphine safely with other medicines.

Morphine may be the reason for the withdrawal reaction, especially if it has been used regularly for a long time or in higher doses. If you stop using this medicine suddenly, in such cases, symptoms of withdrawal (such as discomfort, water coming in the nose, nasal bleeding, sweating, muscular pain) can occur. To prevent withdrawal responses, your doctor may gradually reduce your dose. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information, and immediately report any refund responses.

When Morphine is used for a long time, it can not work too. Talk to your doctor if this medicine stops working well.

Although it helps many people, but Morphine can sometimes cause addiction. If you have any substance use disorder (such as drugs / alcohol excess or addiction) then this risk can be high. Side Effects

Nausea, vomiting, constipation, idleness, dizziness, drowsiness, or sweating can occur. After using this drug for a while, some of these side effects may be reduced. If any of these effects persists or worsens, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

To prevent constipation, eat dietary fiber, drink plenty of water, and exercise. Consult your pharmacist to help select a laxative (such as a stimulant type with stool softener).

To reduce the risk of dizziness and lighthouse, slowly rise while sitting or lying down from the position of lying.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this drug because he or she has decided that your benefit is higher than the risk of side effects. Many people using this drug do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor immediately if you have any serious side effects, including: changes in mental / mood (such as movement, delusion, hallucinations), severe stomach / stomach ache, difficulty in urinating, signs of your adrenal glands (Such as loss), lack of appetite, abnormal fatigue, weight loss).

If you have a very serious side effect, get medical help immediately: unconsciousness, seizures, slow / shallow breathing, severe sleepiness / difficulty awake

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, if you see symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, get medical help immediately, including: granular, itching / swelling (especially the face / tongue / throat), severe dizziness, shortness of breath

Precautions

Before taking morphine, tell your doctor or pharmacist whether you are allergic to it; Or other opioid pain medicines (such as codeine); Or if you have any other allergens. This product may contain passive elements, which may cause allergic or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using Morphine, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially: brain disorders (such as head injury, tumors, seizures), problems in breathing (such as asthma, sleep apnea, chronic obstructive pulmonary Disease-COPD), kidney disease, liver disease, mental / mood disorders (such as delusion, depression), disorder in individual or family history of a substance (e.g Drugs / alcohol intensity), stomach / intestinal problems (such as obstruction, constipation, diarrhea due to infections, paralytic ileus), difficulty in urination (such as increased prostate), pancreas (pancreatitis), gallbladder Pouch disease.

Morphine may make you dizzy or drowsy. Alcohol or marijuana can make you more dizzy or deaf. Unless you can safely do this, do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that requires caution. Avoid alcoholic beverages. If you are using marijuana, talk to your doctor.

Before surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products that you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs and herbal products).

Liquid products can contain sugar, aspartame and / or alcohol. If you are advised to take precautions in diabetes, alcohol dependence, liver disease, phenylketonuria (PKU), or any other condition, then you need to limit / limit these substances in your diet. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about using this product safely.

Older adults may be more susceptible to the side effects of this drug, especially confusion, dizziness, drowsiness and slow / shallow inhalation.

During pregnancy, Morphine should be used only when explicitly necessary. It can harm an unborn child. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. (See also the warning section.)

Morphine passes in breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Tell the doctor immediately whether your child has an abnormal sleep, difficulty in feeding, or difficulty breathing. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Drug interactions can change how your medicines work or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. Keep a list of all the products you use (including prescriptions / non-prescription drugs and herbal products) and share it with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not start, stop or change any drug supplements without the approval of your doctor.

Some of the products that can be interacted with this drug include: Some pain medications (mixed opioid agonist / antagonists such as Pentazocine, Nalbuphine, Butorphanol), Naltrexone.

If Morphine is taken with other products that can cause sleepiness or breathing problem, then the risk of serious side effects (such as slow / shallow inhalation, severe sleepiness / dizziness) can increase. Tell your doctor or pharmacist whether you have other products such as other opioid pain or relief from cough (such as codeine, hydrocodone), alcohol, marijuana, sleep or anxiety medications (e.g,  alprazolam, lorazepam, zolpidem), muscle relaxant (e.g. ) As  carisoprodol, cyclobenzaprine) or antihistamines (such as  cetirizine, diphenhydramine).

Check the label on all your drugs (like allergy or cough-and-cold products), because they may contain ingredients that cause drowsiness. Ask your pharmacist about using those products safely.

This drug can interfere with some laboratory tests (including amylase / lipase levels), possibly causing false test results. Ensure that the lab staff and all your doctors know that you use this medicine.

Over Dose

If someone is treated and has serious symptoms such as difficulty in getting out or breathing, if available, then give them Naloxone, if call 911. If the person is awake and there is no symptoms, then call immediately a venom control center. American residents can call their local venom control center at 1-800-222-1222. Canadians can call a provincial poison control center. Symptoms of overdose may include: slow / shallow breathing, slow thrombosis, coma.

Notes

Do not share this medication with others. Sharing it is against the law.

Morphine is prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it for any other condition unless your doctor is asked to do so. In that case a different medication may be necessary.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have Naloxone available for the treatment of opioid overdose. Teach your family or family members about the signs of an opioid overdose and how it is treated.

Missed dose

If you are taking Morphine on a regular basis and miss a dose, then as soon as you remember, take it. If it is near the next dose time, then leave the missed dose. Take your next dose at regular times. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage

Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets. See also the warning section.
