Sucralfate

Uses

Sucralfate is used for the treatment and prevention of ulcers in the intestines. Sucralfate creates a coating on the ulcer, which prevents the area from further injury. This helps to cure ulcers faster.

How To Use Sucralfate

Take Sucralfate according to the mouth, usually 2 to 4 times daily, on empty stomach, at least 1 hour before meal, or as directed by your doctor.

Dosage is based on your medical condition and medical reaction.

Use Sucralfate regularly so that it can get the most benefit. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day. It is important to continue taking this medicine even if the ulcer does not feel the pain. Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor. It can take 4 to 8 weeks for your ulcers to completely recover.

Some medicines can not work if you take them as Sucralfate at the same time. You may need to take them at different times of the day compared to taking time to take Sucralfate. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to help you create a dozing schedule that will work with all of your medicines.

Antacids can be used with this medicine, but they should be taken at least 30 minutes before or after Sucralfate.

Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens after taking succulent for 4 weeks.

Side Effects

Constipation, dry mouth, stomach, gas, and nausea may occur. If any of these effects persists or worsens, immediately inform your doctor or pharmacist.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed Sucralfate because he or she has decided that your benefit is higher than the risk of side effects. Many people using this drug do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor immediately if you have a serious side effect, including: an abnormal / persistent feeling of fullness in the stomach, nausea / vomiting / stomach pain, especially after meals, difficulty swallowing.

There is no possibility of a very serious allergic reaction to Sucralfate, but if this happens, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction can include: Rashes, itching / swelling (especially the face / tongue / throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

Precautions

Before taking Sucralfate, tell your doctor or pharmacist whether you are allergic to it; Or if you have any other allergens. This product may contain passive elements, which may cause allergic or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using Sucralfate, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially: problems related to kidney, problems in swallowing (such as difficulty in swallowing, history of aspiration), stomach / intestinal problems (e.g., gastric Empty delays), tube feeding, use a breathing tube (tracheotomy).

As you grow older, kidney function decreases. Sucralfate contains aluminum, which is normally removed by your kidneys. Therefore, older people may be at greater risk to develop high aluminum levels while using this drug along with other products, which contain aluminum (e.g., antacid).

If you are pregnant, tell your doctor before using Sucralfate.

It is not known whether this medicine passes in breast milk or not. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Interactions

Drug interactions can change how your medicines work or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. Some products that interact with this drug include: Antacids containing aluminum, some antibiotics (e.g,  ciprofloxacin/levofloxacin/ofloxacin, tetracyclines), digoxin, ketoconazole, penicillamine, phenytoin, quinidine, thyroid medications (e.g., levothyroxine, liothyronine).

Over Dose

If someone is treated and has serious symptoms such as difficulty in getting out or breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call the Poison Control Center immediately, American residents can call their local toxin control center at 1-800-222-1222. Canadians can call a provincial poison control center.

Notes

Your doctor may suggest changes in some lifestyle such as stress reduction programs, changes in diet and treatment and prevention of ulcers.

Do not share this medication with others.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, then as soon as you remember it, take it. If it is near the next dose time, then leave the thesis dose. Take your next dose at regular times. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage

Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.

Until instructed to do so, do not flush the medicines under the toilet or drain them in the drain. When this period expires or is not required, leave this product appropriately. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company.
