Causes

The fungus that causes tinea versicolor can be found on healthy skin. When fungus grows, it only produces problems. This increase can trigger several factors, including the following:

•  Hot, wet weather
•  Oily skin
•  Hormonal changes
•  Weak immune system

Prevention

To help prevent you from returning to tinea versicolor, your doctor can determine a skin or oral treatment that you use once or twice a month. You may need to use them during hot and humid months. Preventive remedies include:

•  Selenium sulphide (Selsun) 2.5 percent lotion or shampoo
•  Ketoconazole (Ketoconazole, Nizoral, Other) Cream, Gel or Shampoo
•  Itraconazole (Onmel, Sporanox) tablets, capsules or oral solutions
•  Fluconazole (Diflucan) tablets or oral solutions

Similar Situations
